Concern for the health of María Elena Ríos' attacker

The supposed death, later denied, of Juan Antonio Vera Carrizal, identified as the intellectual author of the acid attack against saxophonist María Elena Ríos, has raised concern among the victim’s relatives. The activist's lawyer expressed her fear that the aggressor might evade criminal responsibility for the crime of femicide.

In this context, lawyer Cinthya Almazán, representing the saxophonist, has made four requests to the Judicial Power of Oaxaca. First, she requests that the aggressor be transferred to a public hospital with the necessary medical equipment to carry out the relevant studies.

Additionally, the collaboration of the Federal Police and the National Guard has been requested to verify that Juan Antonio Vera remains in custody at the hospital. Furthermore, the intervention of SEMUJERES is sought to provide advice in the legal proceeding of María Elena Ríos against Juan Antonio Vera Carrizal.

Finally, it has been required that a letter be issued to a doctor from a public institution to verify the health status of Juan Antonio Vera Carrizal, ensuring consistency with the clinical reports submitted. The concern over the possible release of the aggressor for health reasons motivates these legal actions by the victim's defense.
